Pharmed is a Complete Healthcare Provider, distributor of  prescription medication (branded & generic), patent & proprietary, homeopathic, surgical, dental and veterinary products to dispensing doctors, retail pharmacies, private hospitals and other allied healthcare professionals.

Pharmed was founded in 1985, in Overport, Durban. Today, we are proud of two fully fledged, pharma grade warehouses in Durban as its head office and in Joburg (formerly Amalgamated Pharmaceuticals). Our combined turnover is in excess of R1.2 Billion.

Pharmed has a client base in excess of 10 000 customers nationally.

Pharmed started in response to demands of the day, as a distributor of pharmaceutical products, and limited accessories to health professionals and has now over the years grown, to become a formidable and a respected, national, Complete Healthcare Provider.

Pharmed has 656 shareholders at present.

Pharmed’s delivery network and service points extend the entire length and breadth of South Africa. Pharmed has 2 large hubs with head office in Durban and another warehouse in JHB and together with Virtual Logistics, we offer an excellent delivery service.

Currently, our stock holding is in excess of 30 000 products, which we distribute to over 3500 destinations in South Africa through Virtual Logistics. Pharmed has a great national footprint and has a major shareholding in Virtual Logistics, whose extensive fleet delivers twice daily to urban customers and offers an overnight service to rural customers. Together, we improve the platform of distribution within the healthcare sector.

Pharmed is a preferred supplier to the Lenmed Group of Hospitals, comprising of 9 hospitals, 7 in South Africa and 2 across border. In addition we are preferred suppliers to Ethekweni, Hibiscus and Hillcrest Hospitals as well as Shelley Beach Day Hospital.

Pharmed has extensive experience in the healthcare industry over the past 27 years in South Africa. Pharmed’s Board of Directors has collectively, years of experience in the healthcare industry and imparts knowledge and experience in the administration and management of the group.

Our total staff compliment for Pharmed Group is 421 staff members, comprising of  Professional Buyers, Accounts Personnel, a Marketing & Rep force Team, Telesales Agents, Administration, Human Resources department, Warehouse and Dispatch Personnel and Drivers.

Pharmed is registered with the South African Pharmacy Council and Medicine Control Council of South Africa This ensures compliance that all pharmaceuticals are regulated and subjected to regular audits by statutory bodies. The price of pharmaceutical products is governed by Government Regulation, which pro tem imposes restrictions on free market sales. Pharmed is also an active member of PLASA – Pharmaceutical Logistics Association of South Africa.

Pharmed has unique and key skills in fine and bulk distribution through our logistics company Virtual Logistics, as well as our ability to promote and sell brands on behalf of suppliers as well as our own in-house brands.

Since the 1^st of January, 2010 we have concluded an Exclusive Distribution Agreement, with The HIMALAYA DRUG COMPANY (Pty) Ltd (of India,) for the sales and marketing of various herbal healthcare products manufactured by them, within the Republic of South Africa. 

For us, this is an exciting partnership. The Himalaya range of products consisting of the Pharma and Personal Care is world renowned and derived from herbs, each product is backed by eight to ten years of research, undergoing clinical trials, mutagen studies and toxicity tests to ensure safety and efficacy. The Personal Care range offers the goodness of natural solutions for everyday use, with no side effects. Made from herbs that are gentle and safe, our range includes skincare, haircare, oral care and healthcare products.
